A TOUCH OF NEON

Hey guys,

I know it's been forever and a day since I've posted something, but I've been BUSY BUSY. So, I'm going to try to do 3 or 4 posts over the next two weeks to make up for the eight I've missed. You know I love you, right?

Anywho, if there's one thing I've embraced this spring/summer season it's NEON. But I'm not in full on neon mode, no. Just a TOUCH of neon. I don't want to look like I'm going out to rave on the regular, if you know what I mean. I thought I would share with you a couple of neon things I've acquired over the last few weeks.

While perusing the Internet some time ago, I came across this denim bustier from American Eagle.  As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to have it. There was only one problem! It was on clearance and since I'm a little on the chesty side I knew I would have to try it on. So, capturing this little gem didn't seem likely. However, I high-tailed it on over to AE to see for myself, and lo and behold, there it was, the last crop denim buster in the store, size small. It fit perfectly, so I purchased it for a whole $10.50, significantly cheaper than the sale price on the website.  The little touch of orange neon on the top just kills me.

I paired it with this high waist, polka dot skirt from Upscale Resale to add a little fun to the outfit.

How are YOU embracing the neon trend this season? Let me know! Stay tuned for my next neon post!

HAPPY SPRING

so to kick off the official start of the spring season, i thought i'd share with you this long, floral print Ralph Lauren skirt i snagged from Upscale Resale. when i first saw it i was completely overwhelmed by the amount of print, but as soon as i tried it on, i knew i had to have it. it has off-white, satin buttons down the front and is on the high-waisted side. it's long but doesn't drag so i could wear some cute strappy sandles with it.

i'm definitely busting this out for Easter Sunday when my family is in town.

happy spring, everyone!

CONFRONTING MY FEARS

i've always been afraid of prints. for the most part, my wardrobe is mostly neutral. however, as of recently i've learned to embrace color, and in the past few months i've learned to embrace prints. now you might be thinking to yourself, "oh, karah. prints aren't so bad." but i've owned maybe five print shirts in my whole life. this is not an exaggeration.

so, i took on this issue by starting with one print that's hot this season.

LEOPARD.

and at first i wasn't sold, let me tell you. i didn't know how to pick it out, match it up with things... it just wasn't working for me. and then one day i just threw it together with my red skinny jeans. it happened by accident. this is what emerged. i was so shocked i took a picture:

i just love red and leopard together. absolutely love it! i don't even know why it works, but it does. i'm not going to question it. my best friend, cait, was quick to point out that she's been doing that for quite some time now. photo evidence:

I learned it from her first. You heard it here.

it's undeniable the bond between red and leopard.

what do you think?

LOOK-ALIKE

i have a feeling i'm about to beat a dead horse here, but...

how awesome is this michael kors watch??

it's been on my most wanted list for quite a while now, but seeing as how i'm a complete "cheap steal" kind of girl, i waited around to see if i could find a look-alike.

and don'tcha know, when you least expect it, you end up finding a doppelganger!

so, my grandmother and i were perusing the local Big Lots when what do my wondering eyes should appear(!), but the 'if-you-weren't-studying-you-wouldn't-know-the-difference' michael kors watch TWIN. at BIG LOTS. and since my grandma was in a giving mood she decided to buy it for me, which counts as GIFTED, my friends.

so for a bargain at SIX DOLLARS, originally from Target, i give you the Merona Women's Gold Watch:

i have to say that it looks a lot more beautiful in person. the gold coloring (which i'm sure is not real, but oh well) is very yellow and vibrant. it shines! i'm so thrilled. i've gotten tons of compliments on it.

now, i wouldn't suggest going to a Big Lots on the regular to find steals. most of the stuff i saw fashion-wise i wouldn't ever buy. i think i just got lucky. BUT if you ever happen to be in place that's already selling a steal then, hey...

you might get lucky, too!

WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS BEFORE

so here it is. my first post on this here new blog. and all i can say for myself is:

why didn't i think of this before?

i've always been a die hard fan of finding cheap, trendy clothes. i can honestly say that more than half of my wardrobe comes from thrift stores and consignment shops. i also acquired some vintage hand-me-downs from great-grandmother. (eep!) and don't be fooled. i find NEW clothes on sale that i like, too!

my cheap fashion treasure hunts began about six or seven months ago. i found myself in a VERY large Goodwill in Bluffton, South Carolina. we're talking a Goodwill the size of a Marshall's. i was in thrift store HEAVEN, let me tell you. my eyes went cartoon wide as i imagined what finds lie ahead. and on that very day, hiding among all the fuss- (thrift stores are hard to sift through sometimes!)- were two sought after gems. i give you the colored, denim skinny jeans.

Periwinkle!

And red!

right then and there i was hooked. fueled by the possibility of finding other gems like these, i've been on an all out quest, staking out all the local thrift stores and consignment shops. i usually revisit a store every three weeks to allow for a good restock.

in these last few months i have accumulated a lot of goodies that i'll share with you on a weekly basis. new posts go up every thursday! so, stay tuned!
